A major difference between Muslims and Christians!

January 27th, 2010 Comments off

Here in Ghana we almost daily come across Muslims from various parts of West Africa. Nations like Niger and Mali.

Often my heart goes out to them as I see them passing by and I often offer to pray for them.

I have noticed though that immediately after praying that God would bless them and reveal His goodness to them, that often the Muslims (especially the young men) then ask me for me to give them something. They in their own words ask: “what have you got for me”.

Its almost like these Muslim young men don’t see the greater blessing, that being the prayer. God is the source of everything, it is God that gives us the ability to prosper.

It seems that these Muslims are often more concerned for material wealth, than they are for being rich in the things of God or even having a love for God.

Yet when we pray for Christians often they are very thankful, and very very rarely do they ask for any money after the prayer.

Could it be that 1 Corinthians 2 verse 12 is speaking here………..Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

Could it be that these young Muslim men don’t have the Holy Spirit/The Spirit of God and as a result they don’t see that prayer is the greater blessing? As a result these dear young men are hungry for money rather than having a love for the creator?

Could it be that Islam is another of those false paths, a path where man is seeking to find his own way to God, rather than accepting the only way that God has given us, that being through Jesus Christ?

Romans 10: 3-4 says: For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Let the reader decide……………

Much God given Love from Ghana.

Angry Later Day Saints! (Mormons) and Do Mormons have the Holy Spirit?

January 9th, 2010 Comments off

Dear Readers,
Greetings from Ghana. Today while I was out doing some evangelism with Elliot an EX-Jehovah’s Witness we came across some Mormons on their bicycles.

One was a Ghanaian named Clement amd the other named Bradon from Arizona. We got into a nice peaceful discussion about what qualifies us to preach the gospel. We also got into a nice discussion about what it means to be a child of God. I then asked the Mormons (LDS, Later Day Saints)what it means to do the will of God and how we would we do His Will.

Once again their response had nothing to do with being Born of the Spirit by receiving Christ, rather they said that by being water baptised that they were then qualified to do God’s will. They also said that they could have the Holy Spirit with them simply because hands were laid on them and because of the Water Baptism……Yet no mention was made of their receiving Christ or of mans need to do that. Yet its only in receiving Christ that we are made righteous/right with God so we can then have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.

Then I mentioned that Mormon’s teach that Christ and Satan are Spirit brothers.

Man when I said that the Arizona man got so angry and started swearing at me and pointing fingers at me…………..

I have not often seen such things in all my days here in Ghana.

Could it be that the Mormons dont have the Holy Spirit and hence dont have peace and self control in their lives?

Romans 5:5 says: Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

God has given us His wonderful Spirit, but He the Spirit is only given after we have received Christ the One who makes us righteous.

Let Romans 8:10 speak to you dear reader please….. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Amen.

How Can I know My Religion Is Correct?

January 2nd, 2010 Comments off

Here in Ghana at least, many are not convinced about their religion. Maybe they have inherited the religion from their family? Or they just kinda fell into it and started attending a youth group with their friends; or going to the mosque because many in their community were doing that?

When you talk to the people (as we try to do here with the Mission on an almost daily basis) you come to see that too many do not have any sense of assurance/certainty about eternal issues they seem to often lack eternal security. Hence they have doubts about their religion.

When you ask them searching questions like: “Do you know if your name is written in the book of Life” most say they don’t know, and that really only God knows.

This question is based on Revelation 20:15-And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. + Philippians 4:3 Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, help these women who have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. + other verses can be found in Revelation.

I would love to put together a little booklet to give to the people, to help them understand the wonderful assurances and realities that are available through faith in God/Jesus. Our Heavenly Father wants us to know Him, to have fellowship with Him to find rest and peace for our soul in Him, and to daily Know His presence, and leading. In short to hear His voice and heart beat, and to have His Spirit strengthen us for the doing of His will.

I would like to look at topics like: how we have an inner witness from God (Romans 8:16- The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. )
How we receive spiritual gifts like prophecy, and discernment of spirits, and healing etc, 1 Corinthians 12:7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. These gifts are given to benefit everyone but they also edify the user. For example when I pray in tongues it stirs my faith and it often gives me boldness for the evangelism work. These gifts help us to have assurance in Him as they lead us to put faith in the power of God.

I would also like to look at how we can know our religion is correct because of a willingness and we in fact have an ever increasing desire to talk about the wonderful things that we have because of God/Christ. Meaning that we want to testify/witness freely because of what we have received from Him. As opposed to having to do evangelism because we think that by doing so that some how we can earn eternal life- yuck, what a false idea….really how could we sinful and fallen from His glory humans, hope to earn eternity/salvation by our own means?.

Here at the mission we often ask people what they have received since they became a Muslim or a Jehovah’s Witness or a Mormon? (whatever the case maybe). Most can only testify to being thankful that today they are alive while others have not survived to live another day. Some also say they are thankful that they have the bible (they have the bible as they can see it, but they never really testify to having/knowing God. Could that be because of having a wrong doctrine about Christ? ..See 2John verse 9).

Yet when you talk to a Born Again Christian often they testify to eternal security and to having a personal relationship with Christ. They are then equipped to Witness for God.

I am open to ideas for this booklet, as I see that there is something of a need for teaching/material on such topics………..
