The death of the ten Commandments, or how are Christians too relate to the law? Plus Sabbath keepers cant handle the truth. Are issues made plain here….
First up, keys to sound doctrines, and whats needed to handle scripture well. Looking on the internet. Plenty of debating going on about the Law verses Grace. The position of the Ten Commandments and the Sabbath in particular; in the lives of Christians.
Those supporting the need for a written moral law (ten commandments), have they ever met Jesus Christ? To handle the word of God not even well but at all, first up we must be a Born Again. That’s a fundamental if you like.
Without being Born Again man/woman will be subject to heresies and their own desires. Which are fruits of the flesh. See 2 timothy 4:3, and Galatians 5:19-20.
We can be Born of God even yet still live in the flesh. We need to know that a life in the flesh does not favor a relationship with God at all.
No Born Again, no righteousness in mans life. No righteousness and truth is suppressed.
Some of you have known a truth that God has revealed to you. Yet because of walking in sin, that truth was lost. See Romans 1: 18.
Christ said in John 17:7 to understand doctrine you need to be doers not just hearers.
Those exalting the law, have you given your self to a life of witness?
See Kingdom of God about power not words. We need power to minister and that’s to minister the new Covenant only, 2 Corinthians 3:5-6.
When it comes to doctrines let the Holy Spirit teach you, let Him form them within you.
Then consider, who is a Christian?
A Christian is one who has been declared righteous and right before Jehovah.
A Christian is one who has Christ dwelling within.
A christian is one who has been made alive to God.
A Christian is one who is Born of God.
A Christian is one who led by the Holy Spirit…
A Christian is a child of God.
A Christian lives by faith.
As a Christian we walk in all these blessings/abilities only through the New Covenant. Too understand if a Christian needs to keep the Sabbath. It helps to consider the Old and New Covenants.
What is the New Covenant?….
An agreement between God and His desire (man)….
Gods part of the agreement is to give us His best. Himself, the Holy Spirit.
Giving us power to be His Children. See John 1:12
In the New Covenant, God puts His law within us. See Jeremiah 31: 33
Yes I Steve confirm that truth. I don’t need an external 10 commandments to know how to live before a Holy God. Walking in the Spirit and there is not even a desire to sin. Galatians 5:16. Walking in the Spirit means we live leaning on His power not our own. Romans 8:13
Mans part of the agreement/role. We need to walk in that Spirit, and abiding in Christ to receive fully the blessings. We do that by receiving Christ, then walking in the new-ness of the Spirit. Being made alive to God. Romans 7:6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
To walk in the Spirit goes hand in hand with a crucifying of the flesh..
God today only gives Himself to man through the New Covenant…
Then considering the old Covenant.
The laws including the Sabbath keeping of the old Testament were Old Covenant means to relate to Jehovah. Old Covenant also included sacrifices for sin; and sin and wave offerings. Old Covenant was once again a way for God to bless His people, and for His people to draw closer to Him. Old Covenant also included the 10 commandments.
Obviously the Jews and God fearing others were supposed to be obedient to the commands.
Yet the Old Covenant was restricted. There was a major flaw in the implementation/putting into practice of it. Because of the flesh. The Jews were not able to keep his part of the agreement. See Romans 8: 3.
Further under the Old Covenant there was no indwelling Holy Spirit.
Its only because of the workings of the New Covenant that Gods temple now is within man. John 7:39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Further God confirms the ability of the New Covenant by enabling His people to to minister the New Covenant to the world through it. 2 Corinthians 3:5-6 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
As an Evangelist, its plain there is such a sufficiency to do His will. Preaching and for living before Him. This sufficiency is only available through the New Covenant. After all the indwelling Holy Spirit gives us gifts like the tongues. Tongues is great source of strength. Truly tongues and other gifts edify, give strength for the work.
Is there a place for a mix of the Old and New Covenants?. Is there place for a blend of the old and the new? Some say we believe in Christ, so we want to please him by keeping the Sabbath. Others say they are Born Again. Then because of a zeal for God, they want to be obedient and keep the 10 commandments. In particular the Sabbath.
Yet such zeal is not based on knowledge. Such thoughts actually lead to a falling away from grace and being separated from Christ.
Christ is the one who should be the object of our desire, we always need to keep going back to that thought. Galatians 5: 4 NKJV You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
Estranged means to be separated from. So at one time maybe you knew him, once you walked in grace, yet because of misplaced zeal, or a faulty view of the law there is a falling away.
To receive all the blessings of God happens now through the New Covenant. To say I love God, so I want to keep the Sabbath and other commandments. Thinking like this is flawed and comes from the flesh. Galatians 5:3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. If you start playing with the law, keeping the Sabbath. Then bible says you become a debtor to the law. Meaning you are then required to keep all of the rules of the Law of Moses. You are right back to square one. Still trying to deal with the curse of the law as well. Galatians 3:10.
Further. But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years. 11 I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain. Galatians 4: 9-11.
Its there to see, plain even, we cant mix Old Covenant with the New. We cant know God and receive His Spirit through the New Covenant then turn back to that which is weak.
Paul says it well in Galatians 3: 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? Then verse 5 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Honestly….
After having tasted the goodness of God. Having seen and sampled what the New Covenant offers. Having received the earnest of the Holy Spirit and being sealed by Him, through the New Covenant. There is no desire to go elsewhere its pointless.
Hebrews 8:13 In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
Some are saying on the Internet that the Old Covenant being down away with (being made obsolete) does not include the 10 Commandments. That the Ten Commandments hence still applies today. Yet faulty thinking again. Once and for all making things plain. The ten commandments is the law. How is the Christian supposed to relate to the Law? Death, we are supposed to be dead to it. Don’t play with it. Leave it alone. Romans 7: 4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.
To bear fruit for God you need to be dead to the law through the body of Christ. Being in Christ then being under the law or a Sabbath keeper. Brings such a estrangement from the life that Christ has give us. Thats why Sabbath keepers usually don’t speak in tongues. Thats why Sabbath Keepers miss out on so much…
If you really want to please God, if you really want to be zealous for Him. Then minister out of the New Covenant only. Be passionate for souls. After all there is more joy in Heaven when one sinner repents. The New Covenant that is where the power is to do and be.
So, should Christians seek to keep an Old Covenant precept. No.
Put your eyes on Christ walk in the Spirit, minister the New Covenant and you will bear much fruit for God.
